History of Classic Cars in Cuba
History of classic cars in Cuba, a paradise before the revolution, preservation after the revolution.
Before 1959: American cars flooded Cuba (Fords, Chevys, Cadillacs), a symbol of wealth and a vibrant mix on the streets.
After 1959: The US embargo stopped new imports, forcing Cubans to become master repairmen, keeping their classics alive for decades. These preserved beauties are now a time capsule and tourist magnet.
Currently: around 60,000 classic cars roam around Cuba, half from the 50s! A large majority is a tourist attraction for foreign visitors.
